Bodimed Laboratory is testing for SARS-COV-2 (COVID – 19) infection, through PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) method, which is currently accepted as the “golden standard” in the laboratory diagnosis of this pathogen.
In order to perfom this test we will collect the following upper respiratory specimens: nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab.
A result can be expected after 48 to 72 hours, depending not only on the need to confirm a possible positive result, but also from the workload of the laboratory.
It is important to realize that the performance of this test in asymptomatic patients is likely to produce a negative result, even with an existing infection, as the number of viral particles may be insufficient at the beginning of the disease.
Currently we are also offering the possibility to send blood samples for the detection of IgM and IgG antibodies against SARSCoV2, to our partner in Germany, Labor Limbach. Their test is performed by the chemiluminescent method (CLIA), which is much more reliable than the “fast tests”, which we at Bodimed do not perform.
To perform this analysis, venous blood is required. The results reflect the presence of (positive) or absence (negative) of the two classes of antibodies and the corresponding interpretation is given. Samples are sent every Wednesday, results – on Monday.
The collection of samples (upper respiratory specimens and and blood) is as following:
- In our blood collection point – Lyulin, 56, 400 Street, floor 1 (Lyulin Metro Station to Technopolis)
- In our blood collection point – Mladost 1, blok 53
- Outside of the laboratory, after a pre-arranged home visit, by a specially trained and protected person, as per recommendations of the WHO.
Before the collection of the samples, patients need to answer several screening questions and complete an informed consent statement, which you can download here and complete in advance.
It is recommended for the tests to be performed after consultation by a physician, due to their specificity.
